Dr. Steven Volk speaks on Immigration 4/6/21, 7 pm

Steven Volk is Emeritus Professor of History at Oberlin college, where he taught between 1986-2016, offering classes on Latin American history, museum studies, and human rights. He was the founding director of Oberlin’s teaching and learning center, which he led between 2007-2018. He was a researcher and then director of the North American Congress on Latin America (NACLA) from 1973-1984. He received his BA from Brandeis University and PhD from Columbia University. In 2001, he was recognized by the Government of Chile for his work in helping restore democracy in that country. In 2011 he was named a U.S. Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He currently serves as the co-director of the Consortium for Teaching and Learning for the Great Lakes Colleges Association, and continues to research and write on immigration, higher education, and Chile.

First Serve – A Day of Service @ Akron Civic Theatre
Sep 8 @ 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

First Serve brings together more than 800 individuals from different faiths and backgrounds to work alongside each other for a day of volunteering in Akron. First Serve begins with a Sending Service at the Akron Civic Theatre. Volunteers then go to their project sites throughout the North Hill Community of Akron. Around 3 p.m., everyone will gather at Lock 3, downtown Akron, for a concert celebration!

On the Table Greater Akron is a one-of-a-kind initiative where thousands of diverse residents from all walks of life gather together to share a meal and discuss meaningful ideas to strengthen our community. Akron Community Foundation is championing this initiative and invites anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Summit or Medina counties to mealtime conversation with their family, friends, neighbors or colleagues. 

AKRON AREA INTERFAITH COUNCIL will be hosting a conversation at The Fellowship Hall at Bath Church on Tuesday, October 1st.  We will be serving a Continental Breakfast at 10 a.m. where you will be able to join in fellowship with others and at 10:30 we invite you to join in the conversation with us.
